I’ve been a fan of playdough, silly putty and slime for a long time. It’s just plain old fun for the kids to play with. Now I’ve discovered a new thing, called kinetic sand and it’s awesome! It’s actually 98% sand mixed with 2% of a silicone called polydimethylsiloxane, which is also one of the ingredients in silly putty (unless you use a homemade recipe).
What this mixture of sand and polydimethylsiloxane gives you is a funky sand substance which (supposedly) only sticks to itself. It is actually true as long as you use it on a hard surface like a table or similar, but not if used on a carpet (yes, I actually had to try). But that can’t really be expected.
The feeling of the sand is very weird, but you can build stuff with it, just as with normal wet sand. It’s gluten, wheat and casein free, in case a little one decides to give it a taste or if they’re allergic by touch. It’s also 100% non-toxic, which naturally is a required thing when meant for kids.
I’ve tried the sand myself and are now waiting for a batch of my own. Will post a video as soon as I get it, until then you can enjoy the video from WABA Fun below.
